Trump's attempt to ghost the press is hitting a brick wall in court
So, the White House tried to kick CNN, MS NOW, and Politico out of the building, and the courts are basically saying 'not so fast.'
It’s a classic case of 'if you don't like the news, just ban the reporters.' The Trump administration decided that CNN, MS NOW, and Politico were basically 'fake news' hazards and tried to pull their access. The move was met with a resounding 'lol no' from the courts, which put a temporary hold on the ban.
The argument from the White House is that press access is a privilege, not a right. They’re acting like the West Wing is a private club where they get to pick the playlist. But legal experts are pointing out that once you invite the press in, you can’t just kick them out because their questions annoy you. Even Fox News—yes, that Fox News—refused to participate in a press pool in solidarity, which tells you how weird this whole thing got.
The administration is currently throwing around the 'national security' card to justify the ban, but the courts aren't really buying it. Apparently, you actually have to prove a threat exists rather than just using it as a synonym for 'reporting I hate.' It turns out democracy is a bit harder to manage when you can't just hit the block button on reality.
Funny how the most 'accessible' president in history is doing the most work to make sure he only talks to people who already agree with him.
