U.S. Mint to Put Trump on a $1 Coin
The Treasury is minting a $1 coin featuring Trump, neatly side-stepping that old law saying you have to die first.
The Treasury Department officially announced a new gold-colored $1 coin for America’s 250th anniversary featuring Donald Trump. Federal law explicitly says living people cannot appear on U.S. currency, but government lawyers insist a 2020 anniversary coin statute gives them a legal pass.
An earlier proposed design literally featured him raising a clenched fist under the words "Fight Fight Fight". The approved version is slightly more subdued, though still shiny and gold-colored — emphasis on colored, as there is zero real gold in it.
Centuries of monetary tradition stand no chance against a politician who really wants his face on cash.
