The U.S. job market just took a nap

Original version ·

September hiring numbers dropped so low it feels like the economy forgot to set its alarm.

So, the U.S. job market just posted a whopping 29,000 new roles for September. To put that in perspective, a single mid-sized stadium could hold the entire month's worth of growth.

It gets better. They went back and checked July and August, and turns out we had 60,000 fewer jobs than they originally bragged about. The math isn't mathing, and the unemployment rate is quietly drifting upward.

Apparently, the economy decided to take an extended summer vacation while everyone else was back at their desks.
