USA just slapped a 50% tariff on Canada. Yes, our buddies.

Original version ·

It turns out not even syrup and hockey are immune to trade wars.

So, the United States woke up and decided to drop a 50% tariff on $20 billion of Canadian goods. It sounds like a bad breakup move, but it’s actually happening. Basically, the last-ditch talks went nowhere, and now the border is a lot more expensive.

Canada is already promising to fight back, because nobody just rolls over when you hit their wallet that hard. It’s a total mess of policy, and we are just the ones who have to deal with the price tags.

Nothing says good neighbor like trying to bankrupt your best trading partner over a weekend.
