Trump says Ukraine can now build its own Patriot missiles
After flip-flopping for months, it seems Ukraine is finally getting the green light to manufacture advanced air defense tech domestically.
It looks like Donald Trump Trump finally made up his mind. During a quick chat at the UN General Assembly, he told Volodymyr Zelensky Zelensky that Ukraine Ukraine is getting the license to start building Patriot Patriot missiles locally.
We have been hearing rumors about this since the summer, with the White House waffling between "maybe" and "absolutely not" because of the sensitive tech involved. But now, it seems the deal is locked in. Ukraine will be spinning up its own production line to counter those relentless ballistic missile attacks. Don't expect these to roll off the assembly line tomorrow, though—getting the manufacturing capacity ready will take at least a year.
Meanwhile, there is talk of some strange three-way diplomacy happening in the United Arab Emirates between Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow. It is a bold move to try and balance domestic missile production with high-stakes international peace talks while the war is still very much active.
Nothing says "peace process" quite like handing over the keys to build your most sophisticated air defense system.
