Ukraine Crashes Putin's Economic Party in St. Petersburg With 1,000km Drone Strikes

Original version ·

While Vladimir Putin was busy telling his economic forum how great everything is, some uninvited flying guests decided to bring the real fireworks. It turns out that dodging peace talks comes with a very loud, long-range receipt.

The sky over the Gulf of Finland turned into an expensive light show as Ukrainian long-range drones targeted the high-security military harbor of Kronstadt and a naval arsenal in Bolshaya Izhora. While local officials desperately tried to play down the fireworks, more than 600 residents of Bolshaya Izhora had to be evacuated when an arsenal caught fire, transforming a quiet night into an impromptu camping trip.

Russia's second-largest city suddenly found its main transport artery completely paralyzed. The state aviation authority Rosaviatsia was forced to shut down Pulkovo Airport for nearly five hours, leaving business class travelers to ponder their life choices while sitting on the tarmac. Local air defenses reportedly scrambled to shoot down over 140 drones, which apparently is the local version of a midnight alarm clock.

This fiery demonstration of air-mail diplomacy came right after Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed a face-to-face meeting to discuss peace. The Kremlin dismissed the offer as pointless, prompting the Ukrainian side to deliver their physical feedback. Simultaneously, another wave of drones travelled about 500 kilometers to pay a visit to a major oil depot in the Krasnodar region, ensuring the Russian logistics team had a sleepless night.

As the smoke cleared, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha took to X to remind everyone that international pressure, travel bans, and the use of frozen assets are only going to intensify. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy packed his bags for London to coordinate the next steps with British, French, and German leaders who are currently setting up a much warmer welcome.
