UCSF Medical School accused of bias against white and Asian applicants

Original version ·

The DOJ is putting the screws to UCSF, claiming their med school admissions process has been prioritizing race over actual grades for years.

It turns out that getting into medical school isn't just about acing your exams anymore. The Department of Justice just dropped a report on UCSF, and the numbers are honestly a bit staggering. Even when applicants had identical grades and MCAT scores, the school was significantly more likely to admit Black and Hispanic students over their White counterparts.

The government is calling out a system where race effectively trumped academic performance during the admissions process. While UCSF insists they have a rigorous and fair process, the feds aren't buying the story that test scores are still the priority.

It is wild that an institution dedicated to science is finding itself in such a messy math problem regarding its own admissions data.
