Turkey is ready to be the new landlord of the Middle East

Original version ·

As the US packs its bags to head for the exit, someone else is eyeing the keys.

The US seems pretty done with playing world police in the Middle East, and Turkey is more than happy to fill the empty chair. With the region still reeling from the fallout of the Hamas attack and the ongoing slog of a war involving Iran, Ankara is positioning itself as the new heavy hitter.

Turkey is betting that while everyone else is distracted by chaos, they can become the main power broker. It is a bold move to try and steer the ship while the waters are this choppy. The neighborhood is a mess, but apparently, Turkey thinks they have the right map to navigate it.

History tends to repeat itself, but usually with much worse consequences for the people actually living there.
