TSMC is dumping another $100 billion into Arizona

Original version ·

It turns out Arizona is becoming the world's unofficial chip factory, and the price tag just went up by a casual nine figures.

So, TSMC just decided to double down on their Arizona bet with an extra $100 billion. This brings their total commitment to a staggering $265 billion. For context, that is a whole lot of zeros for some fancy silicon wafers.

The goal is to get those ultra-advanced two-nanometer chips rolling out of U.S. plants. They are essentially betting the farm that the entire world will still be addicted to their tech for the next decade. With their profits spiking 77% recently, it is clear they have the cash to burn while they hunt for that elusive domestic supply chain dominance.

The scale of this foreign investment is officially moving from 'significant' to 'absurd,' making the original plans look like a pilot project.
