Trump and Xi dine with tech giants while the world waits for actual deals
Nothing says diplomacy like fancy dinners and statues, but concrete policy is apparently still on ice.
So, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping just finished up a massive state banquet at the White House. The room was packed with the usual suspects, including Elon Musk, Tim Cook, Sam Altman, and Jensen Huang. Trump even gifted Xi a custom bald eagle statue. It was all very fancy, but the guest list felt more like a tech summit than a geopolitical turning point.
The only real takeaway from the whole circus was a measly two-month extension on a tariff truce. While they talked about making sure AI stays under human control, major issues like arms sales to Taiwan and human rights remained completely unaddressed by any actual policy shift.
It is definitely a bold strategy to trade global stability for a nice centerpiece and a photo op with the world's richest software engineers.
