Trump and Xi are meeting again to chat about the three Ts
The world's two most powerful guys are heading into another summit. Don't expect fireworks, but at least they're still talking.
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping are back at it. They’re sitting down to talk about the usual suspects: trade, technology, and Taiwan. It’s the same playlist as last time, but this round comes with a side of high-stakes AI panic.
Trade is the boring, simple part. Both sides seem happy enough to keep the current lukewarm deal on life support. They’ve been teasing a new 'Board of Trade' to handle business disputes, but nobody really knows what that means yet. The real elephant in the room is AI. While Washington is freaking out about rogue code, Xi is mostly terrified that an uncontrollable AI might actually threaten the absolute control of the Communist Party. It’s the one thing they both want to regulate, just for totally different reasons.
Then there’s Taiwan. Trump is sticking to the classic 'maybe I'll help, maybe I won't' strategy, while Beijing keeps building ships and hoping for the best. It’s a classic diplomatic stalemate where nobody wants to break the table, but nobody’s actually moving the pieces.
It turns out the biggest achievement of these summits is simply that they keep happening. In global politics, boredom is usually the best-case scenario.
