Trump is Officially Taking Syria Off the Terror Sponsor List

Original version ·

Just when you thought the Middle East couldn't get any more surprising, Donald Trump decided that Syria is no longer a bad guy. In fact, they're basically besties now.

Remember when Syria was the ultimate international outcast? Well, erase that tape. Trump just told Congress he’s officially removing them from the state sponsor of terrorism list, where they’ve been chilling since 1979.

Why the sudden change of heart? Because Bashar al-Assad is gone, and the new guy in charge is Ahmed al-Sharaa—a former jihadist rebel leader turned interim president.

At a press conference in Turkey, Trump sat right next to him, called him a "great leader," and casually asked his aides if anyone had a problem with de-terrorizing them. Marco Rubio just shook his head and said "No." Just like that, decades of foreign policy shifted over a quick head nod.

Even the Democrats are cheering this on, which might be the weirdest part of the whole thing.

Going from the axis of evil to a "great guy" in under two years is some world-class rebranding.
