Trump threatens 100% tariffs on anyone taxing Apple or Meta

Original version ·

If you’re a country thinking about making American tech giants pay their fair share of taxes, Donald Trump has a very simple, very loud message for you: don’t.

In a move that is peak protectionist drama, Trump took to Truth Social to declare that any country daring to slap a digital services tax on US tech companies will immediately get hit with a 100% tariff on everything they export to America.

He basically declared that if you try to tax our tech lords, we will completely destroy your export economy. This isn't just some minor trade tweak, either. This massive tariff is designed to override any existing trade deals, whether they’ve been signed, implemented, or are still just a vibe on paper.

We already have a hilarious preview of how this works. Last year, Canada was hours away from launching their own digital services tax. But Trump basically put them in a trade negotiations chokehold until they quietly deleted the whole plan.

It is wild to watch the US government act as a highly aggressive, heavily armed bodyguard for corporations that already dodge taxes back home anyway.
