Trump wants to "take" Iran's main oil island because Venezuela went so well

Original version ·

Just when everyone thought the Middle East situation couldn't get more chaotic, Trump jumped online to suggest a casual hostile takeover of Iran's entire energy market.

So, right after a round of US airstrikes, Trump hopped on social media to announce that America is going to hit Iran very hard. And then came the kicker: he casually mentioned the US will soon just seize control of Kharg Island, the tiny hub that handles about 90% of Iran's crude oil exports.

His logic? He says we did it with Venezuela and it "worked out great for everybody." Which, if anyone has looked at a map or a news report about Venezuela in the last five years, is a pretty wild take.

A few hours later, he went on Fox News and walked it back a tiny bit, admitting that maybe the American public doesn't "have the stomach" for occupying foreign oil islands. But hey, a guy can dream.

Taking over a sovereign country's entire economic lifeline via social media post is certainly one way to handle complex geopolitical diplomacy.
