Trump asks Supreme Court to nix 83M Carroll payout
Because apparently, nothing says 'official presidential duty' like getting into a massive legal fight over a department store encounter.
So, Trump Trump is back at the Supreme Court, and he’s asking them to toss out that massive 83 million dollar judgment won by E. Jean Carroll Carroll. You remember: the one where he insisted he never abused her, then got hit with a defamation bill for calling her a liar.
His argument? He’s claiming his comments were an official act of a president, and therefore he should have total immunity. He’s essentially trying to swap the US government in as the defendant, arguing that if he has to pay up for defending his reputation while in office, future presidents won't be able to do their jobs without constant fear of being sued.
The courts have already told him 'no' on this multiple times, but he’s hoping the big bench might see it differently this time around.
A century of legal precedent just met the ultimate test of 'but I was president at the time.'
