Trump Pardons Emissions Cheaters For Just 'Fixing Their Car'
Ever tried to fix your car and accidentally made it spew 1,200 times the legal limit of toxic black smog? No? Well, thankfully, we have a president who understands that sometimes a little "backyard tuning" involves violating federal environmental laws.
So, Trump just dropped a fresh batch of pardons, and nine of them went to guys who got busted for selling or installing "defeat devices"—basically software and hardware designed to trick emissions tests so diesel trucks can roll coal without those pesky government regulations getting in the way.
According to Trump's post on Truth Social, these guys were simply "persecuted" by the Biden administration for "fixing their car." It is a beautifully simple way to frame it. Why let facts get in the way?
One of the newly pardoned gentlemen, Jonathan Achtemeier, was previously called out by the Department of Justice for rigging diesel engines from his living room, making them spew up to 1,200 times the legal pollution limit. Just a casual weekend oil change, really.
The list also includes a couple of non-car guys, like Adam Kidan, a GOP donor who once got nearly six years in prison for a wild casino-buying scam involving counterfeit wire transfers. Because nothing says "automotive repair" quite like multi-million dollar financial fraud.
Apparently, the definition of a simple car repair has officially been expanded to include mass air pollution and casino-grade wire fraud.
