Trump orders strikes on Iran after drone hits cargo ship
So much for that brand-new peace deal. Trump just ordered retaliatory strikes after Iran lobbed kamikaze drones at ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
It took exactly nine days for the big historic ceasefire to hit a massive speed bump. Just last week, a shiny new peace plan was signed, guaranteeing sixty days of safe, toll-free passage through the critical shipping strait. Then, Iran went ahead and launched four kamikaze drones at commercial ships passing through.
Three of the drones got knocked down, but one scored a direct hit on the upper deck of a very large, very expensive cargo ship. The vessel survived and kept moving, but the peace vibes did not. Trump took to Truth Social to call the attack a "foolish violation" of the deal and immediately ordered retaliatory strikes.
Meanwhile, Iran's deputy foreign minister hopped on X to basically say that nobody gets a free pass through the strait without coordinating with them and paying their dues. So much for that peaceful sixty-day freebie agreement. American officials are now calling the US airstrikes a "retaliation" rather than a return to war, desperately trying to keep the peace plan on life support.
Nothing says "stable diplomatic breakthrough" quite like launching retaliatory airstrikes a week after signing the treaty.
