Todd Blanche, the lawyer who represented Trump in his New York criminal defense, was officially sworn in as Attorney General of the United States. The Senate pushed his confirmation through by a thin 50-49 margin.
He had already been serving as acting head of the DOJ after Pam Bondi was ousted. During his temporary stint, he oversaw the departure of over 200 prosecutors and agents who worked on Trump-related investigations.
He also approved an official deal promising that the IRS will not audit Trump's tax returns or those of his family members. More than 1,200 former DOJ employees and survivors of Jeffrey Epstein asked lawmakers to block him over his handling of government records, but party discipline held line.
