The public square right in front of the White House has been the go-to spot for angry citizens to make noise for decades. It is basically ground zero for First Amendment demonstrations in D.C.

Now the administration wants to install permanent fencing around Lafayette Park, effectively putting a massive wall between the public and the executive mansion.

Protesters are naturally thrilled about having their front-row seat to power replaced by steel bars.
