Kennedy Center board decides Trump's name belongs on the building again
The saga of the Kennedy Center nameplate just took a turn that feels like a fever dream.
The board at the Kennedy Center just voted 20-3 to slap Donald Trump male's name back on the building. They are also closing the main complex for a mysterious 'renovation.' The new name is basically an entire paragraph: The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump. And because one name isn't enough, they are officially rebranding the location to President Donald J. Trump Plaza.
This comes barely two months after a judge ruled the name change was a no-go because Congress originally approved the center's name. A few members of Congress tried to stop this, calling it a transparent end-run around the court. The board is betting that if they just add enough words to the title, people will eventually stop caring.
It seems official institutions are now just elaborate canvases for personal branding projects.
