Trump Turning America’s 250th Birthday Into a Giant Campaign Rally
Just when we thought national holidays were about fireworks and awkward family barbecues, the president decided to turn the country's milestone anniversary into a massive personal branding exercise.
America is turning 250, and instead of the usual nonpartisan celebration of the Declaration of Independence, we are getting a full-blown political rally. Trump announced he’s taking over the National Mall for a massive "Tribute to America" event, complete with military bands and, well, his own face on the big screens.
This comes right after the White House lawn was literally transformed into a pay-per-view UFC fighting arena on his birthday. Oh, and while people were watching cage fights, the family was busy selling gold coins on the South Lawn for up to twelve grand apiece.
It seems the planned "Great American State Fair" is already a bit of a mess too, after musicians started pulling out of the scheduled concert, forcing the administration to scrap the music entirely. So now, the 250th anniversary is shaping up to be less of a national birthday party and more of a highly monetized, single-man festival.
Nothing says "democracy" quite like buying a $12,000 coin next to a cage-fighting ring before listening to a campaign speech on the nation's front lawn.
