Trump Wants The Strait of Hormuz To Be U.S. Territory
Just when world geography felt mostly locked in, someone decided a random waterway next to Iran belongs in the American territory portfolio now.
Speaking in New York, Trump announced his post-conflict roadmap: declaring the Strait of Hormuz an official U.S. territory.
His reasoning is straightforward real-estate logic. The U.S. Navy is already running the blockade and stopping traffic, so the U.S. essentially already holds the keys. If you control the toll booth, you might as well claim the road.
Iran naturally called it total delusion and promised the waterway will stay Iranian forever. But while both sides argue over ownership, global trade is taking the hit. A choke point that usually sees 140 tankers and a fifth of the world's oil supply every day saw just six ships over the entire weekend.
Annexing a strip of water thousands of miles away between Iran and Oman would certainly make for an unconventional 51st state.
