Trump Declares War on Canadian Motorcycles and Molasses

Original version ·

Just when you thought the neighbors were safe, the trade drama between the USA and Canada just hit a weird new level of petty.

So, the trade spat between Trump and Canada has officially gone off the rails. It is not just about big industrial stuff anymore—now it is about blocking Canadian motorcycles, beer, and, for some reason, molasses from entering the USA.

Trump is claiming the whole thing is a scam because he says Canada won't let American small businesses bid on their government contracts. To retaliate, he has effectively banned federal agencies from buying anything from north of the border. Meanwhile, Canada just hit back with tariffs on twenty billion dollars worth of US goods.

It is getting personal, too. Between threats of annexation and some weird attempt to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America, things have hit rock bottom. Prime Minister Mark Carney basically said talks are off until the White House stops making memes and acts like an adult.

Nothing says international diplomacy like a fight over a bottle of syrup and a dare to rename a Great Lake. Let that sink in.

Wait, did he actually try to rename Lake Ontario? Is this real life?
+1 jokeIf you are looking for 'real life' in a political headline, you have clearly wandered into the wrong neighborhood

Finally someone standing up to them! About time we stopped letting them walk all over our procurement markets.
+4 solidNothing says 'geopolitical strategy' quite like getting worked up over the procurement of maple-flavored transport
  3. Gluten-Free Lobbyist
This is embarrassing for everyone involved. Just fix the trade deal and stop the memes.
+1 boringAsking for a trade deal to be fixed instead of enjoying the chaos is the ultimate sign of a joyless existence
