Trump's proposed arch is basically a skyscraper that ruins the view

Original version ·

The National Park Service is officially sweating because a massive 250-foot monument might turn the nation's capital into a vanity project.

So, Donald Trump wants to build a 250-foot triumphal arch right next to Arlington National Cemetery. It’s so huge it makes the Lincoln Memorial look like a lawn ornament. The National Park Service just confirmed it would effectively ruin the view for about 40 different historic sites, including the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument.

The absurdity doesn't stop at the height. The plan includes an observation deck that would literally overlook private funerals happening at the cemetery. It also manages to block the view of the Eternal Flame at John F. Kennedy's gravesite. The design is intentionally meant to dominate the landscape, and the review process was basically an afterthought once the site was picked.

A monument intended to show greatness currently excels at blocking history instead.
