Trump, Big Tech sign 'we pinky-promise to play safe' AI pact
Because nothing says 'we've got this' like tech giants and the White House deciding that self-policing is the best way to handle potentially world-ending software.
So, Trump got a bunch of tech heavyweights like Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Dario Amodei, Greg Brockman, and Jensen Huang together at the White House to sign a voluntary safety accord for AI. The goal? Making sure their models don't accidentally start global crises or leak bioweapon recipes.
The best part is that there are absolutely no legal mandates or penalties attached. It’s basically a gentleman's agreement where the companies promise to check on themselves and maybe, possibly, consider writing some real rules later. To top it off, Trump issued an order to rename 'Artificial Intelligence' to 'Super Intelligence,' because clearly, the terminology was the biggest issue here.
Trusting a handful of billionaires to police their own trillion-dollar toys because they swore on a piece of paper is definitely a bold strategy.
