Trump Administration Pays $1.2B to Make Wind Power Go Away

So, the U.S. Department of the Interior just cut another check for over a billion dollars. Who got the money? A German energy giant, RWE. What were they paid for? To pack up and stop building wind farms.
This is the fifth time this has happened. So far, the government has burned through nearly four billion dollars in taxpayer cash just to kill off offshore wind projects. The plan is to take those leases off the coast and swap them for—you guessed it—more natural gas infrastructure.
RWE is taking that cash and immediately pouring it into a liquefied natural gas company and a pipeline project. Meanwhile, back in Washington, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum is out here calling this a win for our energy future. It turns out when you think wind is just 'ugly,' paying massive companies to walk away from clean energy is apparently considered good policy.
It takes a special kind of commitment to spend billions of tax dollars to ensure the energy grid stays exactly as it was in 1950.
