Todd Blanche Senate Hearing Devolves Into Pure Chaos
Todd Blanche had one job at his Senate confirmation hearing for Attorney General: look reasonable. It did not go according to plan.
The acting Attorney General sat down for his Senate Judiciary confirmation hearing and immediately found himself in a corner. When questioned about why he met with Ghislaine Maxwell in prison but refused to meet with ten of Jeffrey Epstein's victims sitting right in the room, Blanche claimed legal protocol barred him from speaking to people with lawyers. Senator Cory Booker called out the defense as completely ridiculous, leading Blanche to snap that senators can ask questions, but they cannot control his answers.
Things only got stranger from there. Senators brought up how Blanche personally signed a document granting Donald Trump and his family full immunity from IRS investigations right after a $10 billion settlement that a federal judge just threw out this week. To top it off, he defended subpoenaing journalists from The New York Times by comparing reporters covering leaks to casual eyewitnesses at a car crash.
Defending meetings with sex traffickers while treating journalists like crash witnesses is what passes for an Attorney General job interview in Washington.
