A GOP Senator Wants Trump to Boot Pete Hegseth Already

Original version ·

The honeymoon at the Pentagon didn't just end — it completely crashed into the drywall.

When a cabinet pick starts losing his own party in the Senate, things tend to unravel fast. Republican Senator Thom Tillis just went full scorched-earth on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, calling his leadership the most inept management of the military he has ever seen.

This wasn't a sudden fit of pique out of nowhere. It landed right after Army Secretary Dan Driscoll packed up his desk following months of clashing with Hegseth. In fact, nearly two dozen generals, admirals, and senior officials have retired early, quit, or been pushed out since the former Fox News weekend host took over.

According to Tillis, the defense chief is basically terrified of competence and retreats into fighting culture wars rather than running an actual armed force. Even Senate Democrats quickly chimed in to agree that the guy has way overstayed his welcome.

It turns out managing the world's most powerful military takes a slightly different toolkit than winning flame wars on morning cable television.
