Switzerland is basically a giant, well-stocked doomsday prep bunker

Original version ·

While everyone else was selling their Cold War gear, the Swiss just kept digging.

Most countries treated their old bomb shelters like embarrassing relics, turning them into storage units or just letting them rot. Not Switzerland. They decided that if you have a perfectly good hole in the ground, you should probably keep expanding it.

The country currently maintains over 370,000 nuclear shelters. That is enough to fit the entire population, plus guests, and probably their entire collection of artisanal cheese. Some of these bunkers are now being used to house migrants, proving that Switzerland is the ultimate prepper that never actually threw anything away.

Paranoia is apparently a national hobby that keeps the property value high.
