Supreme Court greenlights Trump's voter database plan
The highest court in the land just handed the administration a win on its controversial citizenship verification tool.
So, the Supreme Court just gave the green light for the Trump administration to tap into an expanded federal database for citizenship info. Lower courts had previously slammed the brakes on this, worried the data is about as reliable as a screen door on a submarine.
The administration wants to use this SAVE system to cross-check voter rolls. Critics are already screaming that this could accidentally boot actual citizens right off the registration lists. The real kicker is that the court is pushing this through even as questions about the database’s accuracy remain wide open.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson fired off a dissent, basically saying that keeping a few legitimate voters from casting a ballot is a way bigger mess than the government having to wait a bit longer to clean up some spreadsheets.
The government might have won this round, but checking voter eligibility with a system that many experts call a digital disaster is definitely a choice.
