Supreme Court tells Trump: Back off the mail-in ballots
The highest court in the land just shut down Donald Trump’s latest attempt to turn the USPS into a ballot-vetting agency.
It seems the Supreme Court finally grew tired of being asked the same question. Donald Trump tried three different times to force the USPS to play gatekeeper for mail-in ballots, and the justices finally said no.
The plan was essentially to make the postal service check voter lists and scan secret codes before delivering ballots. Critics correctly pointed out that this would lead to total chaos and massive disenfranchisement right before the midterms. It turns out that when you try to turn mail carriers into election monitors, the courts might actually notice.
Even weirder, reports suggest the post office was already testing this system behind everyone's back. Trump keeps screaming about voter fraud, yet he continues to vote by mail himself while trying to make sure nobody else can.
The irony of a president fighting to dismantle the very system he uses to cast his own ballot is apparently lost on the administration.
