Supreme Court greenlights Trump’s mail-in voting squeeze

Original version ·

Just when you thought the pre-election drama couldn't get any weirder, the high court just gave the green light to a controversial mail-in voting plan.

The Supreme Court just let Donald Trump start moving on his executive order to mess with mail-in ballots. It’s not a full victory for the White House, but it lets the Department of Homeland Security start building lists of who they think should be voting in certain states.

The kicker is the U.S. Postal Service. Trump wants them to track ballots based on these voter lists. A lower court tried to stop this nationwide, but the Postal Service went ahead and pushed the rule into the Federal Register anyway, practically ignoring the injunctions. The Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson aren't happy, with Jackson calling the whole thing a recipe for election chaos.

The most ironic part? The guy leading the charge against mail-in ballots has used them himself as recently as this year.

Rules for thee, but not for me: the classic American political tradition is alive and well.
