Drones hit Saudi Arabia's lifeline: Oil markets are officially sweating

Original version ·

Things just got significantly more complicated in the desert as a massive pipeline gets taken out by surprise visitors.

So, a key pipeline in Saudi Arabia just got hit by multiple drone strikes, and the whole thing was basically an uninvited air show. The East-West Pipeline, which is pretty much the country's backup plan while the Strait of Hormuz is a total disaster zone, is now officially shut down.

The kicker is that these drones apparently buzzed in all the way from Iraq. The Saudi government is being weirdly polite about it, saying they aren't retaliating yet to give the Iraqi government a chance to clean up their own backyard. Meanwhile, everyone is scrambling because oil prices are already flirting with that triple-digit mark.

Geopolitics is just a series of expensive accidents waiting to happen.
