A Russian drone just missed a train to Poland by a hair

Original version ·

Things in the border zone are getting uncomfortably close to NATO territory.

A passenger train heading from Kyiv to Warsaw just got buzzed by a Russian drone just two miles from the Polish border. The train crew knew something was coming—they’d been tipped off—but that doesn't make an attack on a civilian rail line any less insane.

The timing is the real kicker. Just minutes before the strike, a diplomatic train carrying some heavy hitters, including Boris Johnson and David Petraeus, cleared the same area. It’s hard to tell if this was a sloppy miss or a deliberate shot across the bow at the EU and NATO.

Whatever the intent, a drone hitting a civilian train while Poland is on high alert is a hell of a way to test the definition of an escalation. The world is getting way too comfortable with these close calls.

so at what point does a 'close call' actually become an incident? asking for a friend who likes not having a world war.
