Russia drone-strikes Chernobyl nuclear fuel facility because why not
Because regular warfare is apparently too mainstream, our neighbors to the east decided to play real-life Fallout. Nothing says 'tactical genius' like throwing explosive toys at a facility designed to keep radioactive ghosts locked in their metal coffins.
The drone attack targeted a spent nuclear fuel reception building located roughly nine miles from the main Chernobyl power plant. This particular building acts as a high-stakes retirement home for old radioactive fuel, keeping it cool and contained so it doesn't decide to recreate 1986.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the strike caused significant physical damage to the fuel reception building and nearby structures. Ukrainian first responders had to play the world's most stressful game of firemen, quickly extinguishing fires started by the drone impacts.
While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that local radiation levels remain completely normal for now, he pointed out that Moscow's audacity has officially bypassed orbit. The Kremlin, maintaining its signature move of absolute silence, has yet to comment on the strike that took place roughly nine miles away from the main reactor.
Playing chicken with radioactive waste is certainly an interesting geopolitical strategy. It seems some world leaders won't be satisfied until the entire Eastern European map requires a Geiger counter just to check the weather forecast.
