Marco Rubio hits ICC with sanctions for having 'too much power'

Original version ·

The U.S. just decided to go full scorched-earth on an international court because sovereignty is apparently a zero-sum game.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio Rubio just announced that the U.S. is officially sanctioning the International Criminal Court. The vibe? Calling the judges 'globalist experts' and claiming they're trying to grab too much power at America's expense. The administration is essentially trying to financially strangle the court to stop it from ever touching an American.

The move includes banning transactions and potentially seizing assets belonging to 17 specific judges and prosecutors. It is a bold, aggressive flex in a world that generally pretends international law matters, but the U.S. has never been a member anyway—even if a few past presidents once toyed with the idea.

Sanctioning the very institution meant to prosecute war crimes is certainly a way to show the world who holds the real power. It remains to be seen if the world’s 'allies' will find this as charming as the administration clearly does.
