The Pentagon Wants Drone-Launching Robot Boats in Shipping Containers
The military took one look at recent naval battles and decided giant multi-billion-dollar warships are overrated when you can just pack robot boats into a standard shipping container.
The Pentagon just put up $100 million for anyone who can deliver combat-ready robot boats that launch aerial attack drones — and they want working prototypes in just 120 days.
The craziest part isn't just the speed, but the packaging. The entire boat-and-drone attack platform has to pack neatly into a standard shipping container or onto a regular flatbed trailer.
They aren't starting from scratch either. US defense builder ReconCraft is already preparing to mass-produce Ukraine's battle-proven Magura drone vessels on American soil, targeting thousands of units a year at under $500,000 each.
A swarm of half-million-dollar robo-boats launching suicide drones from disguised cargo containers turns out to be a terrifyingly effective alternative to a $13 billion aircraft carrier.
