OpenAI hits the brakes on their new GPT-6.1 Astra model

Original version ·

Even the AI hype machine is finally realizing that moving fast and breaking things might actually break everything.

So, OpenAI just pumped the brakes on their latest project, GPT-6.1 Astra. Apparently, they decided that maybe releasing increasingly autonomous systems without knowing how to control them is a bad idea.

It is almost as if the industry has realized that safety is not just a suggestion you add in post-production. They are holding off until they can figure out how to stop the machine from going rogue. It turns out that building digital gods is significantly harder than just writing a cool demo for a keynote.

Technology companies are finally admitting that their own software might be moving a little too fast for comfort.
