Nvidia is casually dropping $105B on an OpenAI data center in Ohio
Forget about buying a new graphics card, Nvidia just decided to bankroll a massive AI factory in the middle of the Midwest.
It turns out Nvidia has a spare $105 billion lying around, so they are putting it into a gargantuan data center in Ohio for OpenAI. To put that in perspective, that is more money than the GDP of entire countries, all to feed the insatiable hunger of AI compute.
This place is going to run on 4.2 gigawatts of power, which is frankly a terrifying amount of electricity. SB Energy and SoftBank are handling the construction, and they are even throwing in a few billion just to make sure the local power grid doesn't melt the second they flip the switch.
The best part? OpenAI is basically just the tenant here. Nvidia is providing the gear, the cash, and the tech, while their partner gets to live in the penthouse of AI infrastructure for cheap. The AI gold rush isn't about buying shovels anymore, it’s about buying the entire mine.
