Turns out, fixing a massive underwater pipeline is a lot easier than blowing one up without getting caught.
Remember when everyone spent months guessing who turned the Nord Stream pipelines into a giant pile of scrap metal? Well, the plot just thickened again. A man allegedly involved in those deep-sea dives just got picked up in Croatia.
German prosecutors have been digging into this for ages, convinced that a crew of divers managed to plant explosives right on the seabed near Bornholm. This is the second person officially linked to the sabotage, following another arrest in Italy last year. The official narrative keeps pointing to a rogue Ukrainian operation, even as officials in Kyiv keep waving their hands and saying they had absolutely nothing to do with it.
It is almost impressive that a few guys with scuba gear pulled off the biggest industrial sabotage in years while the world's navies were busy looking the other way. Somewhere, a spy novelist is currently throwing their manuscript out the window because reality is just too absurd.
