Supreme Court tells Missouri GOP to quit the map games

Original version ·

It turns out you can’t just rewrite the rules of an election while the ballots are already in the mail.

The Supreme Court just swatted away Missouri Republicans for the third time in a month. They really, really wanted a new map to squeeze out an extra House seat, but the justices finally had enough of the drama.

The plan was to redraw lines to flip a Kansas City district, but the timing was a total disaster. The court basically said, 'Guys, people are already voting,' and refused to trigger absolute electoral chaos just because someone wanted a better chance at winning.

Even the local governor had to wave the white flag, admitting that changing the map now would be a mess. It’s wild that it took three tries to get the point across, but the 2022 map is staying put for the midterms.

Third time's the charm for sanity, apparently.
