It's Election Day, and the U.S. House Map is a Total Mess
Grab your drinks and settle in, because the map we're voting on today looks like it was drawn by a toddler with a grudge.
So, it is that time again. We are all heading to the polls to decide who gets to sit in the U.S. House for the next two years. If you feel like the electoral map looks a bit... creative, you are not imagining things. Donald Trump spent the last year asking states to draw lines that favor his side, and states have been playing a frantic game of musical chairs with district boundaries ever since.
Some states actually got their maps rejected by the Supreme Court, while others just went ahead and axed majority-Black districts for fun. It turns out that redrawing lines to guarantee a win is a full-time hobby for these people, but it does not actually guarantee they will win.
Now we are looking at a weird mix of tight races from Virginia to Iowa, where farmers are apparently pretty annoyed about diesel prices. Whether or not all that geographic tinkering actually pays off is about to be answered once the counting starts.
Nothing says democracy quite like spending millions of dollars to redraw a map just so the politicians can pick their voters instead of the other way around.
