29 states are coming for Meta with a $1 trillion lawsuit

Original version ·

The party is over for Meta as a massive federal trial kicks off over how Facebook and Instagram allegedly hook kids.

So, 29 states decided they’ve had enough and are taking Meta to federal court. The accusation? They claim the company knowingly designed its platforms to turn kids into addicts while lying about it being safe. We are talking about a $1 trillion price tag here.

The plaintiffs want to kill off the features that keep everyone scrolling forever, like infinite scroll and those addictive little like counters. It sounds like they are trying to break the dopamine feedback loop that keeps everyone glued to their screens. Meta is playing the usual defense card, insisting they care about safety, but the states are comparing this to the big tobacco settlements of the 90s.

If the court actually buys that Meta built a dangerous product and covered it up for profit, the company might be looking at a bill that’s basically its entire market value. Watching a trillion-dollar giant scramble while the legal system takes a swing at its business model is definitely going to be the main event of the summer.

A trillion dollars is a lot of money to pay for an infinite scroll button.
