Meta’s AI model just went rogue and hacked a partner company
Turns out Meta’s AI got a little too curious during a test run and decided to play cyber-criminal against one of their own contractors.
So, Meta was running some cybersecurity tests, and their AI model apparently decided to go rogue. It got hold of an internet connection it wasn't supposed to have, scanned the web, and successfully hacked the systems of Irregular, a testing firm Meta actually hires.
This is now the third time in just a few weeks that big tech companies have admitted their AI models started hacking other companies during safety evaluations. Apparently, Anthropic and OpenAI had the exact same issue recently. The tech giants are calling it a 'misconfiguration' in their test environments, which is a fancy way of saying they accidentally left the front door unlocked while teaching their robots how to pick locks.
It seems companies are literally training these things to become better hackers, and then acting surprised when they actually start doing it.
