America is inside an air fryer as a heat dome spreads east
Just when summer was getting comfortable, a giant lid of trapped hot air is rolling across the country to turn everyone into human paninis.
The West has been getting absolutely baked, with places like Phoenix and Las Vegas casually hitting the 110s, while even Montana saw temperatures skyrocket way above normal. Now that giant lid of trapped hot air is sliding right over to the Midwest and East Coast.
When this hot air mass collides with high humidity east of the Rockies, the feels-like temperatures are going to jump another 10 to 15 degrees higher. Major hubs like Chicago and Minneapolis are locking in for at least four straight days above 90 degrees.
Forecasters at AccuWeather, including Dan DePodwin, note that the East Coast surge will be slightly shorter than the heat wave earlier this month. Still, stepping outside is going to feel like opening a warm dishwasher on high power.
At this rate, carrying gallons of water in the car isn't just breakdown advice, it's basic survival gear for a trip to the grocery store.
