Trump vs. Fed: Attempting to fire Lisa Cook again
Round two of the White House trying to oust a top Federal Reserve official is officially underway.
It seems like Donald Trump is back at it, trying to get Lisa Cook out of the Federal Reserve. The administration is claiming she committed mortgage fraud by mislabeling a vacation home. Her lawyers, however, fired back with a heavy dose of sass.
They pointed out that an accidental paperwork error isn't fraud—especially when a third of the current cabinet reportedly did the exact same thing. It’s pretty clear this has nothing to do with real estate and everything to do with Trump wanting the Fed to lower interest rates on his command.
The Supreme Court already blocked this exact move once, telling the administration that they can't just fire people without a real explanation and a chance for them to defend themselves. Apparently, they didn't get the hint.
Apparently, the rules only count if they don't get in the way of the agenda.
