Donald Trump has decided that Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are the dream team needed to wrap up the war in Ukraine. They are currently heading to Moscow and Kyiv, armed with a proposal that the White House thinks might actually stick.
It is worth noting that while Kushner has been to Russia before, this is their first official rodeo in Kyiv. The plan is to pitch a peace deal while the conflict is still actively raging, with both sides trading heavy airstrikes just days ago. Volodymyr Zelensky has already promised to keep the skies clear for their arrival, which is a nice gesture in the middle of a shooting war.
Whether two guys mostly known for business deals can untangle one of the most complex geopolitical disasters in modern history is exactly as absurd as it sounds. Watching the world hinge on the frequent flyer miles of a private citizen and a real estate guy is quite the move.
