Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial finally gets a date: June 2028
After more than two decades, the wheels of justice are moving at the speed of a rusted tricycle.
It has been over twenty years since the World Trade Center attacks, and the legal system is finally getting around to setting a start date for the man accused of masterminding them. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is currently scheduled to stand trial in June 2028, a timeline that even the prosecution admits is a bit of a stretch.
This isn't exactly a sprint. Mohammed has been held at Guantanamo Bay since 2006, and the court says they need the extra time just to sort through the mountain of pretrial motions. It takes longer to schedule this trial than it took to fight some of the actual wars that followed the attacks.
Justice delayed is just an administrative headache at this point.
