Judge Clears Proud Boys Convictions at Trump’s Request

Back when Trump took office, he commuted the prison sentences for the group's leaders, which got them out of jail but left seditious conspiracy convictions on their criminal records. Naturally, the new Justice Department decided that wasn't enough and asked a judge to drop all charges entirely.

Judge Timothy Kelly, who was actually appointed by Trump, signed off on it because of separation of powers, but he made sure everyone knew he was doing it through gritted teeth. He explicitly wrote that the Capitol riot was a perilous attack on police and the Constitution, warning people not to take his ruling as an endorsement.

Meanwhile, former leader Enrique Tarrio immediately hit X to declare absolute victory, posting that they took the worst of it and stood tall.

Nothing says complete vindication quite like having the government ask its own court to pretend the whole thing never happened.
