Judge: Trump Can't Turn the USPS Into His Personal Gatekeeper

A federal judge just hit the brakes on a plan that would have let the postal service decide who gets to vote by mail.

So, the White House had this bright idea to have the United States Postal Service filter who actually gets a mail-in ballot. Because, you know, being a neutral mail carrier is so last century. A federal judge just expanded a block on the whole mess, basically telling the administration that they can't just rewrite election rules on a whim while the Supreme Court decides if the whole thing is even legal.

The government hasn't even tried to defend the constitutionality of this in court, which is a massive red flag. Meanwhile, voter groups are stressing because this is causing absolute chaos for students, the elderly, and military families who rely on mail ballots. The judge basically said the administration is trying to sow confusion, and for now, the post office has to stick to its actual job.

It turns out that trying to privatize democracy via the mail system is harder than it looks on paper.
